Just a Touch was conceived of shortly after news reports emerged regarding a spate of suicides in 2010 at iPhone manufacturing plants in China. The title piece consists of a fingerprint stamped with invisible ink onto a phone display protector, which is mounted inside of a custom UV light display box. Along with the other work in the series, this is meant to highlight the contradictions between the seamlessness of industrial product aesthetics and its impacts on the subjectivities of both ‘first-world’ users and ‘third-world’ workers.
