Performing for a cause, artists Thomas Albrecht, Alice Vogler and Butch Merigoni will be presenting work in an event called Taste for Sight, a benefit for the Foundation Fighting Blindness. The event is means to bring awareness to Stargardt disease, a common juvenile disease that degenerates the photoreceptor cells in the retina.
The event is hosted by City Winery at 155 Varick Street in New York on Tuesday March 15th from 7 to 10 PM.
“The artist selection for Taste of Sight was determined following a deeply candid conversation with a small group of Stargardt’s survivors,” wrote Quinn Dukes, curator, and founder of Performance Is Alive, in a statement. “The group shared stories about their initial diagnosis, the challenges of living within a visually-centric generation and above all, identifying beyond their disease – not as their disease. As an extension of this conversation, the performance artists presenting work at Taste for Sight explore elements of meditation, strength and emergence within their artistic practice.”
Along with performances, the event will feature interactive art from 3DPhotoWorks, as well as tastings and a silent auction.
